Donington Park first opened its gates in 1931, initially for motorcycle racing and then two years later for car action. The circuit went on to stage Grand Prix for both motorcycles and cars in the pre-war era.

Donington Park was subsequently re-built and re-opened in 1977 and has staged the British Motorcycle Grand Prix annually since 1987. Among other accolades, Donington Park staged the first ever round of the World Superbike Championship, as well as holding the F1 Grand Prix of Europe in 1993.

BSB returned to the track for the first time since 2009 last season and is back on the calendar in 2012.

John Hopkins won the first race of the Showdown from the Swan Yamaha's of Michael Laverty and Tommy Hill. There was drama in race two as Laverty and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne collided ending in the gravel with the pair salvaging points. Hopkins made it a double win from arch rival Hill and team-mate Jon Kirkham.
