The stars of the MCE Insurance British
Superbike Championship return to the big screen next month as for
two nights only (21 February and 1 March) cinemas across the
country will be screening I, Superbiker 2 - The
Showdown.
Ahead of its country-wide release yesterday (Wednesday) there was an exclusive preview screening held in London, as reigning champion Tommy Hill and Swan Yamaha team owner Shaun Muir saw the new film for the first time alongside fellow BSB riders Simon Andrews, Jon Kirkham, Peter Hickman and Gary Mason.
Hill said: "The first thing to say is that this time round the movie had a better ending! It is great just to see the emotions from the final round all over again, especially as during an event you are 'in the zone' and it's something that as a rider I missed. It is emotional when you see the reactions from your family, girlfriend, friends and all of the fans on the big screen."
Former Olympic athlete Derek Redmond was in attendance ahead of his first BSB season as a joint team owner for the Splitlath Redmond Racing team and he was joined by 2012 Olympic hopeful Ben Challenger who is aiming for glory in the high jump.
Modern-day adventurer Charley Boorman also switched his usual challenging terrain for the comfort of the cinema and BSB on the big screen to watch the first screening of the new film.
Boorman said: "I was away a lot of last year but I did see the results but I obviously hadn't experienced the full impact of what a great season it was and how close the races were. I thought the film was fantastic; it caught the drama of it all, especially that last race. I am very passionate about racing but I believe that a film like this will bring racing to masses."
