Olympic contenders past and present attend I, Superbiker 2 screening

As the country prepares for the London 2012 Olympic games former athlete Derek Redmond joined high jump hopeful Ben Challenger at the preview screening of the forthcoming I, Superbiker 2 - The Showdown movie which screens to cinemas across the UK and Ireland next month.

Redmond, who is now a joint team owner in the 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, celebrated gold medals at World and European Championships and the Commonwealth Games during his career. His performance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona remains as one of the most iconic in his career and Olympic history when he tore his hamstring in the semi-final but bravely fought the pain and with the help of his father managed to complete a lap of the track. Redmond now is preparing for his first full season in BSB with the Splitlath Redmond Racing team.

Redmond said: "There are thousands of racing fans who already love the sport but I think what this film can do is attract a wider audience. For people that haven't seen BSB racing before you can't experience much more excitement than a season-long competition coming down to the last race, on the last lap and the last corner with less than a second between winning and losing. Even in athletics you don't always see margins like that. The combination of speed, danger and passion is all the ingredients needed for an epic event."

Challenger is one Great Britain's leading High Jumpers and is targeting to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics after several seasons hampered by injuries. The 33-year-old, who has competed internationally for Great Britain for a decade, took part in 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, but his greatest achievement to date came at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, when he claimed a silver medal. The former British number one went on to win Commonwealth bronze on home soil four later in Manchester. The London 2012 Olympics could represent the Essex athlete's last realistic chance of Olympic success and the self proclaimed motorcycle fan is desperate to qualify for the GB team.

Challenger said: "I, Superbike 2 is a great film for racing fans. It gives a great insight in to the race days of the riders and teams. The build up to the last 10 minutes and the final race is amazing."

The 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship kicks off at Brands Hatch over Easter weekend (6/7/8/9 April). Don't forget you can purchase your tickets in advance by booking online at www.brandshatch.co.uk or by calling 0843 453 9000.
